PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

 

The BS Islamic Studies program is designed to provide students with a profound understanding of Islamic knowledge and its application in modern contexts. The program’s core objective is to cultivate a deep comprehension of the Qur’an, Hadith, Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), Islamic history, and theology, enabling students to engage critically with Islamic texts and traditions.

By blending classical Islamic scholarship with contemporary research methodologies, the program aims to develop well-rounded graduates who are not only proficient in Islamic Studies but also capable of addressing contemporary issues from an informed Islamic perspective. The curriculum emphasizes analytical thinking, ethical reasoning, and the practical application of Islamic principles in various fields, fostering intellectual growth and spiritual development.

In addition to academic excellence, the program prepares students for roles in education, research, social services, and interfaith dialogue. It aspires to produce graduates who can serve as knowledgeable leaders, educators, and ambassadors of Islamic values. The program promotes peace, tolerance, and mutual understanding, enabling students to contribute positively to society while engaging with global challenges.

 

SCOPE OF THE PROGRAM

The scope of the ADP/BS Islamic Studies program is comprehensive and multidisciplinary, encompassing classical Islamic sciences as well as their application in contemporary contexts. The program covers major areas such as Qur’anic studies, Hadith, Fiqh, Islamic history, theology, and Islamic thought, while also engaging with modern disciplines including social sciences, law, and interfaith studies.

Graduates of this program have diverse academic and professional opportunities. They may pursue higher education and research in Islamic Studies and related fields at national and international levels. The program also prepares students for careers in education, religious institutions, research organizations, media, public policy, and community development.

Furthermore, the program equips graduates to play an effective role in promoting peace, ethical values, and social harmony. It enables them to address contemporary challenges faced by society through an informed and balanced understanding of Islamic teachings. The scope also extends to interfaith dialogue, policy-making, and global engagement, aligning with modern educational and societal needs.

 

 

STANDARD NOMENCLATURE

 

For the sake of standardization, all undergraduate degree programs (NQF Level 6 qualifications) in the discipline of Islamic Studies shall be offered under the title of “BS Islamic Studies.” Any equivalent programs with different nomenclature shall be renamed accordingly.

 

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

 

The ADP/BS Islamic Studies program aims to achieve the following objectives:

 

  • To develop a comprehensive understanding of core Islamic disciplines including the Qur’an, Hadith, Fiqh, Seerah, and Islamic thought.
  • To equip students with critical and analytical skills to interpret Islamic teachings in contemporary contexts.
  • To integrate classical Islamic knowledge with modern research methodologies and contemporary academic disciplines.
  • To promote ethical values, intellectual growth, and spiritual development in students.
  • To prepare graduates for professional roles in education, research, and community services.
  • To encourage research and dialogue on contemporary socio-religious issues.
  • To foster values of tolerance, peace, and interfaith harmony.
  • To align academic learning with national needs and global frameworks such as SDGs.

 

PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES (PLOs)

 

After completion of the program, students will be able to:

 

  • Demonstrate sound knowledge of Qur’an, Hadith, Fiqh, and Islamic history.
  • Critically analyze classical and contemporary Islamic texts.
  • Apply Islamic principles to contemporary social, ethical, and legal issues.
  • Conduct basic research using appropriate methodologies.

GOALS OF ADP / BS ISLAMIC STUDIES

 

  • To introduce the basic and fundamental concepts of Islamic Studies through core courses.
  • To provide knowledge of Islamic sciences such as al-Qur’an, al-Hadith, al-Fiqh, Islamic History, Seerah, and Islamic Civilization.
  • To equip students with basic understanding of social and contemporary challenges faced by the Muslim Ummah.
  • To develop skills required for higher studies and professional growth.
  • To prepare students to work effectively as team members.
  • To promote self-development and positive contribution to society.

 

ELIGIBILITY AND ADMISSION CRITERIA

 

  • As per the admission policy of GAUS.
  • Higher Secondary School Certificate (12 years of education) or IBCC equivalent qualification is required for admission in BS Islamic Studies / ADP Islamic Studies.
  • Candidates holding Sanvia Khasa certificates from approved Wafaqs are eligible, subject to IBCC equivalence of 12 years of education.
