BS Biochemistry
Undergraduate Program
Bachelor of Science (BS)
BS Biochemistry is a four years’ bachelor level and semester system program. It is designed according to the national and international standard on the basis of current and future needs. Biochemistry is the branch of science that can be defined as the study of life at the molecular level. It deals with the study of chemistry of bio-molecules (proteins, carbohydrates, lipids and nucleic acids), the reactions going on in the cell and their mechanism in detailed. This Biochemistry degree program consisted combination of selected and electives courses that ensure a strong foundation in the chemical and biological sciences while providing the flexibility to tailor the curriculum to satisfy specific interests or career goals.
Current focus of research work in Biochemistry is molecular biochemistry, genomics and proteomics, biotechnology, cellular biophysics, structural biology, clinical biochemistry, biochemical neuropharmacology, bioinformatics, nutritional biochemistry, molecular structure determination, molecular mechanisms of membrane trafficking, protein folding, and signal transduction etc. This program may be of interest to students who plan careers in research, in teaching, or in the life/health sciences professions (medicine, pharmacy, dentistry).
It is the aim of the department to promote the development of conducive scholarly environment to enhance intellectual capabilities, to offer undergraduate program that are of international standards and to foster research and scholarly activities in biochemistry fields. We will develop progressive pedagogies to train students in contemporary theories, methods, and instrumentation while preparing them to be life-long learners who will thrive in an ever-changing world.
