He has also attended multiple national and international seminars on hydrology, disaster resilience and water resources management.

Professional Experience

Assistant Manager (Infrastructure) – National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Islamabad
Contributed to national disaster risk reduction by developing strategies for resilient infrastructure and formulating polices and guidelines to mitigate hydrometeorological hazards. Conducted infrastructure vulnerability assessments, coordinated with international organizations and provincial departments and supported policy development to strengthen disaster preparedness across Pakistan.

Junior Engineer (Hydrologist) – BK Consultant Pvt. Ltd., Islamabad

Worked on the design and evaluation of hydraulic structures, including culverts, drainage systems and aqueducts. Conducted field investigations, collected hydrological and hydraulic data and performed alignment studies. Utilized GIS tools for Land Use/Land Cover classification and rainfall interpolation (IDW), designed surface drainage systems and assessed the performance of existing hydraulic structures to support effective water resource management.

Junior Technical Officer – Bestway Cement Ltd., Hattar (Line II)

Assisted in structural works by preparing shop drawings and bar-bending schedules, managing steel rebar yard documentation, and ensuring compliance with project specifications. Played a key role in QA/QC activities by verifying construction quality, reviewing material standards, and conducting site inspections. Supported on-site execution through close coordination with engineers and supervisors to ensure smooth project implementation.

Key Projects

MSc Research: Experimental investigation of scour reduction around compound bridge piers using sacrificial piles, focusing on optimizing pile shape, spacing and configuration to enhance hydraulic performance and minimize structural vulnerability.

Flood Monitoring & Disaster Risk Reduction: Contributed to national flood forecasting, hydrometeorological hazard assessment and infrastructure resilience profiling during tenure at the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

Hydrologic & GIS-Based Analysis: Performed Land Use/Land Cover (LULC) classification, rainfall interpolation (IDW) and hydrological data analysis for engineering design at BK Consultant Pvt. Ltd.

Hydraulic & Drainage Design: Designed surface drainage systems and evaluated existing hydraulic structures to support flood mitigation and effective water resource management.

Engr. Muhammad Nawaz Sharif’s multidisciplinary expertise in hydrology, hydraulic engineering and disaster resilience uniquely positions him to contribute to sustainable water resource management and climate-resilient infrastructure development.
