Educational Background

Engr. Ali Akhtar holds an MSc in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Structural Engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Taxila, where he also completed his BSc in Civil Engineering.

Research Contribution

Ali Akhtar’s research focuses on structural health monitoring, retrofitting of masonry structures and the use of machine learning (ANN and CNN) in structural engineering. His work also covers sustainable and fiber-reinforced concrete. He has published in leading Q1 and Q2 journals and presented his research at major international engineering conferences.

Professional Experience

Research Assistant – Civil Engineering Department (UET Taxila) – (March 2023 – May 2025)

Contributed to research on structural health monitoring and the retrofitting of masonry columns using the near-surface mounted (NSM) technique. Developed analytical and machine learning models (ANN and CNN) for strength prediction and brick classification and collaborated on experimental studies of fiber-reinforced prestressed concrete girders. Conducted literature review, laboratory testing, data analysis and supported the preparation of research publications.

Lab Engineer – Quaid-e-Azam College of Engineering and Technology, Sahiwal – (July 2022- February 2023)

Led practical sessions in Engineering Mechanics, Civil Engineering Drawing and Theory of Structures; evaluated exams, assignments and reports; maintained lab equipment and prepared materials to support effective practical learning.
