Headline: From Pakistan to Europe: Leading the Charge in Climate-Neutral Transport Innovation 🇵🇰➡️🇪🇺

I am thrilled to announce a significant milestone in my role as Director of Research, Innovation, and Commercialisation at Grand Asian University Sialkot (GAUS) . In a first for our institution, I have successfully coordinated and submitted a Horizon Europe Innovation Action proposal as Project Coordinator and Project Leader.

The proposal, titled “Grid-Enabled Global Electrification through Low-carbon Energy integration for Commercial Transport (G-ELECT)” , was submitted under the call HORIZON-CL5-2026-02 (Topic: HORIZON-CL5-2026-02-D4-06).

Coordinating a project of this magnitude from Pakistan is a rare and proud achievement. It demonstrates that scientific leadership knows no borders and that Pakistani researchers can effectively steer high-impact, multinational consortia addressing the EU’s Green Deal goals.

The G-ELECT Mission:
We are tackling the hardest part of the energy transition—decarbonizing high-power transport. By advancing Aqueous Zinc-Ion Batteries (AZIBs), developing grid-interactive megawatt charging architectures, and validating these innovations in a live urban metro system, we aim to turn energy grids from passive loads into active, resilient assets.

A Powerhouse Consortium:
The success of this submission is built on the strength of our collaboration. I am deeply grateful to our world-leading partners whose expertise makes this vision viable:

· University of Edinburgh
· Heriot-Watt University
· University of South Wales
· University of Seville
· University of the Punjab
· Grand Asian University Sialkot

Crucially, the consortium is anchored by major European energy and grid operators Scottish Power and SSE. This direct industrial involvement ensures that G-ELECT is not just academic research, but a scalable, real-world solution ready for deployment.

A Thank You and A Look Ahead:
This achievement is a testament to the vision of GAUS and the collaborative spirit of our international partners. It proves that by combining cutting-edge materials science with industrial muscle, we can create a blueprint for global net-zero ambition.

I look forward to steering this proposal through the evaluation phase and am eager to explore how we can replicate this success.

If your organization sees strategic alignment in the areas of energy storage, grid stability, or transport electrification, I would welcome the opportunity to connect and discuss future consortia for Horizon Europe or other international funding schemes.

Let’s build the future, together.
