Vice Chancellor’s Message
Professor Dr. Mujahid Kamran was Vice Chancellor of the University of the Punjab (PU) for almost nine years (Jan 2008-Dec 2016). He joined PU as lecturer in 1972 becoming professor in October 1988. He was Head of the Physics Department at PU from 1995-2001 and 2007-2008, and Dean Faculty of Science from 2004-2007. From 2001-2004 he worked as Professor of Physics at King Saud University, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He is also Professor Emeritus at PU.
Professor Mujahid Kamran is the author of 63 research publications of which about 50 have been published in refereed IF journals abroad. He has attended numerous international conferences. He has published 15 books and an additional 4 books authored by him are in press. He has also written 145 articles on aspects of science as well as on global politics which have been published in national and international magazines and papers.
Professor Dr. Mujahid Kamran has been awarded Sitara e Imtiaz (2015) and Pride of Performance (1999). He won the Abdus Salam Prize (1985). He was awarded first prize for research contribution in a calendar year (1986) by the National Book Council. He was Senior Associate of the Abdus Salam International Center for Theoretical Physics (1991-1996), Trieste, Italy. He has also received several other national and international awards.
He has a Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics from the University of Edinburgh, UK (1979). He is an alumnus of Punjab University, Gordon College, Rawalpindi and C.B. Sir Syed School, Rawalpindi. He has a throughout first class career securing merit scholarships at every stage. He was a member of the Gordon College Hockey Eleven and a captain of the PU Faculties hockey team. He was awarded Diploma of Merit for participating in the activities of the House of Commons Debating Club, Gordon College.
